Have you ever wondered why you can’t make it to the top? You focus on positive thinking and you’ve written down your goals but it feels as if you are just spinning your wheels.
Today we continue with nugget #7 as discussed in John Mason’s book, An Enemy Called Average (Updated and Expanded), and you might just find the answer there.
As we get to nugget #7, we get to a problem many people are facing today; the problem of indecisiveness. People who can never make a decision, are the most miserable people in the world.
Take Control of Your Own Future.
A fact that many people don’t realize, is that all our decisions have an effect on our future. Decisions are being made all the time. If we don’t develop the courage to take our own decisions, someone else make those decisions for us. There is a myth out there that you become the product of your environment. Nothing can be further from the truth. You shouldn’t become a product of your environment, you should create your own environment. And it all start with decision-making.
Your goals might be written down and you have all the positive affirmations you can think of, yet if you don’t make a decision, there will be no progress.
You will always be faced with a situation which gives you the opportunity for decision-making. You might argue that you still have your day job to do, and you are not ready to start your dream business. Maybe you don’t have enough capital yet. Well, I have two questions; “what are you going to do about it?” and “when are you going to do something about it?”
You can have the biggest dreams and best intentions, but unless you start making decisions, it will be wishful thinking. To quote from John Mason’s book An Enemy Called Average (Updated and Expanded); “the greater the degree of wishful thinking, the greater the degree of mediocrity”.
Why is it that certain people just seem to rise out above everybody else? Do they have some special powers? Do they just happen to be at the right place at the right time or are they just being lucky?
No, they make decisions. They don’t allow circumstances to dictate to them. We often don’t have all the answers to all problems or situations, because we might not have all the facts. But, we usually have all the facts we need to make a decision. It is a fact that it is decisive people who prevail and rise to the top, because the majority of people are indecisive.
I want to add a different color to this picture. Let’s face it, anything you dream about, is normally something above average. Whether it is your dream car or house, maybe a certain charity you want to be involved in or support, or even that dream business. If wasn’t above average, if it wasn’t something special, it wouldn’t have been something to dream about, would it? Well, I have good news; it is only a decision away. It might take some time to manifest, or to complete the physical project, but it is only a decision away for you to get active in your dream.
It Is Time for Decision Making
So, I’m coming back to my two questions of “what are you going to do about it, and when are you going to do it”?
However small it might be, it all starts with a decision and taking action. I’ve recently read an excellent article by Sarah Peterson; 16 Painless Actions You Can Take In 20 Minutes or Less To Start Your Business (or anything else for that matter). If you battle and you really have no idea where to start, I can really recommend that you read it too. The point is, be decisive.
Give me your opinion on this matter by leaving a comment below. I would love to hear from you and about how you are dealing with the challenge of indecisiveness.
